Eric Apperly – End of Season Report 2024
Posted on: 26 August
What a season!!
Our team won its section and then progressed to the final following a fabulous win against one of the favourites, Concord (Blue).
We arrived at Pennant Hills at 10.30 for our 11.30 tee time on Sunday for the final against New South Wales Golf Club (silver). As usual we were greeted by a fabulous contingent of the Stonecutters family to support our efforts. Unfortunately, Sunday wasn’t to be our day and our opponents, choc full of state team members, were too good, defeating us 5-1. Our team for the day and caddies were: 1. Kade Webber (Brent Young), 2. Michelle Yang (Lia Lavelle), 3. Annoushka Maikap (Anne Korte), 4. Ryan Cade (Jack Gillett), 5. Sean Sammons (Josh Gillett), 6. Savannah Webb (Mark Yates). Our emergency reserves on the day were Jackson Northey and Jack Gillett. Unfortunately, Aayush Verma could not join us on Sunday.
NSW took control early of the bottom 4 matches, and we just couldn’t get back in. At times the come backs started, only to be thwarted by our opponents. After Savannah’s, Sean’s, Ryan’s and Annouska’s matches went to their opponents, Kade’s (1up thru 12) and Michelle’s (1 down thru 12) matches were declared halves, and we offered our congratulations to our opponents.
The team have represented the club in the best sporting spirit. They gave it their all, supported their team-mates and played all their matches with integrity and respect for their opponents. The integrity was evidenced in the final by Annoushka calling a penalty on herself when her ball moved whilst she was moving some loose impediments. Her opponent did not see what happened and had no idea what had occurred until Annoushka told him. It is a lesson to us all that integrity is so important in our game where adherence to the rules is largely self-monitored.
I would like to thank every team member for their efforts this year. You all worked exceptionally hard throughout the season and represented Stonecutters proudly. Sue Fairhurst has been a great support as assistant manager and Ryan Cadle has captained the team with distinction. Three players completed the preliminary rounds undefeated, Kade Webber, Savannah Webb and Ryan Cadle (2nd year running!)
The team would like to thank our caddies and supporters. We also thank Talyor’s Aluminium who have sponsored the team this year, thanks Jed. Integral to our success this year has been the support of our elite coaches, Matt Ecob has been a positive influence around the team and contributed greatly to our success. It must be noted that all our coaching staff at Stonecutters contributed to the season through their ongoing support of our players.
The team is determined, as it was this year, to leave no stone unturned in its quest for an Eric Apperly flag in 2025.
