Notice to Golf Members
From: Men’s Golf Committee, 19/8/24
Pace of Play
Pace of Play has been a significant issue recently. Rounds of over 5 hours have been experienced which is simply not acceptable. This occurs because members show a lack of consideration for others and do not prioritise pace of play. The member survey showed a significant majority of members believe that round times in excess of 4.5 hours are unacceptable.
All members are reminded that your position in the field is directly behind the group ahead irrespective of your tee off time or the pace of the group ahead of you. Round times continue to be monitored with emails being sent to groups that do not maintain their position in the field. If a significant improvement is not apparent in the coming weeks the Golf Committee will consider sanctions such as exclusion of offending groups from the following Thursday night booking process.
Marking of Competition Cards
Members are reminded that when they are playing a 2 ball event in a group of 4 the Conditions of Play require your individual card to be marked be member of the other 2 ball team in your group. A number of members have been disqualified from competitions recently for breaches of this Condition of Play. Ignorance is no defence, the Conditions of Play are available on the website in the public, Golf and Tennis tab.
Rules Reminders
Free relief from abnormal ground conditions such as GUR is available using your nearest point of relief not your most convenient point of relief. If you do not like the nearest point of relief, your choices are to not take relief and play the ball as it lies or take penalty relief (unplayable lie) from where you ball is after taking free relief.
Red lines defining penalty areas are part of the penalty area. A ball that is on the line or overhangs any part of the line is in the penalty area. There is no free relief from the red line, you may of course take penalty relief if your ball overhangs or is on the line as the ball is in the penalty area.
